It is clear that this is a good idea for a complex narrative for something like The Witcher's. If you only played the games and did not read the books, you will still get the events and understand what is going on.
Let us be clear, you will not be spoiled if you played the games or read the books. The series provides the audience with an interesting scenario supported by an interesting progression. Also, we were satisfied from the fact that scenario and scenes were all in-line.
Character Development
Main characters we often see on screen are Geralt, Yennefer, Jaskier (Dandelion) and Ciri. Although there are many characters that we often see, these are the by far most obvious ones. The series handles the story of Geralt of Rivia and Jaskier getting together very well, and makes it the beginning of an adventure. Characters are in-depth and mostly parallel to how they are portrayed in the books.
The TV series handles the character development very well, considering the short season. Even though 8 episodes seems fairly long, you will soon realize that episodes could be longer. One-hour long episodes seem to fall short from time to time, making some scenes look like they are cut in a rush. On the other hand, if we leave the exceptions out, scenes are well-planned and story is exciting.
Because of the before-mentioned reason, some characters don't get enough attention. But, the overall character development in the TV series is great. The audience sees Geralt evolving through the choices he makes, how Ciri slowly shapes her path and how Yennefer pushes her limits. Well, we will not get into details because of possible spoilers, but characters are clearly well-developed. Especially, the main characters of the series are not lacking depth and portrayed as interesting figures.
Battles and Fight Scenes
One of the things which we need to underline is how good battle and fight scenes are. Since this is a spoiler-free review, we will retrain from going into too much detail about them. The fight scenes impressive with one word. In nearly each and every one of them, Geralt follows a well reflected line of his contradicting cold character and moral thoughts. On this basis, it is possible to say that fight scenes do not seem like empty action that you skip.
On the other hand, the swordplay is also breathtaking. In each fight, you feel that you are watching a Witcher. For example, when Geralt fights a monster, the fast-paced action distances itself from man-on-man fights. Fight scenes between humans are generally more brutal, while containing as much gore as you would see in a monster fight. In short, if you played the game before, you will see a similar fast-paced swordplay in the series. It is fairly safe to say that fights are not rare, in fact, you will see a lot of fights. You can be sure that you will not watch a full-on drama for hours.
Continuing, the battle scenes are also one of the best things The Witcher series did. Fear not, you will see the Nilfgaardian black knights with their massive army in full scale. Let's put things into this way, rumours are true. If we are getting a second season, we will keep seeing better battle scenes than Game of Thrones'.

The genre of the series is fantasy and drama, so expecting laughter any minute would not be suitable. Although The Witcher includes humor here and there, do not expect it to be a comedy show. Lines usually contain strong moral messages, which direct the audience to create some empathy between the characters and themselves.
The series achieves the cinematic quality with its one hour long eight episodes. Even though the episodes felt short from time to time, the Scenario flows through without a disturbance. Actors and actresses are well-suited for their roles and Henry Cavill really made a great Geralt of Rivia.
The cast seems suitable to all characters, reflecting characters' values and characteristics. The visuals of The Witcher world perfectly resemblances the fantasy series with addition of lore and action. Scenes are usually grey and dark, which is in line with The Witcher universe.
