In its quarterly earnings report, Square Enix cleared the air regarding some matters. The company made it clear that they will not immediately make next-gen exclusive games. Therefore, we should not expect new games from the developer which is only available on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
The company claims that both devices seem to include backwards compatibility, so there is no need to wait. President Yosuke Matsuda was asked if the company is working on next-gen games or not. Which Matsuda answered with the facts that we explained in the first paragraph.
The president made it clear that the company is working on cross-platform projects, but next-gen will wait. Yesterday, CD Projekt decided to provide players with free upgrades to Xbox Series X version, if they buy Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox One. Developers seem to want the players to purchase games without waiting for the next generation consoles.
In detail, Matsuda told, “The next-generation consoles will have backward compatibility, so we plan for the time being to make our new titles available for both current and next-generation consoles." and added “It will therefore be somewhat farther down the road that we release titles exclusively for the next-generation consoles.”
We will update you on this matter if Square Enix releases more details.
