Rockstar Games has published a thank-you page dedicated to the developers of GTA 5 and GTA Online, the company's two hugely successful games. In this, it lists all the people who worked on the two video games. To be sure, it sounds a lot like a farewell to GTA 5, in anticipation of the arrival of GTA 6.
"Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online represent the combined efforts of our global team over many years," reads the "Thank You" page on the Rockstar Games website. "We want to recognize and thank everyone who has contributed to these games from their original launch in 2013 to the present."
The list includes everyone who worked on GTA 5 and GTA Online in alphabetical order, specifying their respective positions (but not the period during which they worked on the game). Everyone is (we assume) really included, even the game testers who are often put on the back burner in the video game world. Also present are the original credits published along with the game.
GTA 5 has sold 170 million units, making it the second best-selling game behind only Minecraft (238 million). The game was re-released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and then also arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The success was obviously also driven by GTA Online, the multiplayer component.
With this thank-you page, it seems that Rockstar Games is acknowledging not only the authors' efforts, but also the fact that it is now close to putting GTA 5 on the back burner. As GTA 6 is in development and rumors continue to mount, it is probably from the perspective of many gamers that it is also time to move beyond the numbered fifth installment of the saga.
