Finally, Chivalry 2 (or Chivalry II for our Roman readers) has arrived. The hack and slash of the Middle Ages has scaled up, and 64-player multiplayer conflicts promise more devastation than ever. And, here is how to play with friends via Chivalry 2 crossplay.
Chivalry 2, the follow-up to Torn Banner Studios' 2012 title Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, features brutal melee action in either first or third person. Expect more battles that resemble scenes from movies, more blood and guts, and more castles to storm. On PC (it was originally an Epic Store exclusive, but is now on Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, you can shed some real tears.
The richer battlefields with throwable items seen in the second Chivalry game are one of The Loadout's favorite improvements. You can toss weapons, pebbles, and pieces of wood, but why not throw your opponents' decapitated heads instead? Although the Chivalry community is already devoted, any game with 64-person epic matches needs a substantial player population, hence crossplay was announced back in 2020 to speed up the game-finding process.
In Chivalry 2, it's fun to saunter around bloodied battlefields from some of history's largest battles. Even great is doing it with buddies.
But is crossplay available in Chivalry 2? Well, it both does and does not...
Chivalry 2 crossplay
Crossplay does exist in Chivalry 2, however it merely serves to shorten the matchmaking process. Currently, you can play matches online with friends on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, but not as a group.
Yes, there is a problem with Chivalry 2 crossplay because there isn't yet cross-platform party matchmaking. Cross-platform parties were not a feature that was intended for launch, according to Torn Banner Studios, so if you're a console player hoping to get together and play with PC buddies, you can't actually do that in an official capacity.
Our team has worked to pivot to review the possibility of providing this feature as quickly as possible. It will not be available at launch on June 8, but the team hopes to bring it online in an update once a development timeline is established.

A cross-generational party system for Chivalry 2 is being developed, though. It has been listed as a high priority feature on Torn Banner's Trello board since June 2021, though.
However, there is an exception to every rule. Microsoft's consoles are the only ones that allow Xbox users to create parties and play games together.
Chivalry 2 crossplay party workaround
There is a way to play games with friends across platforms even if there isn't an official Chivalry 2 crossplay party system yet. It's the tried-and-true method of simultaneously joining a server and hope your friends are there. To make this function, you might have to be in the same area.
There's no guarantee you'll be on the same team if you do end up in the same game, but for those of us who enjoy hitting a friend with a morning star, that's not an issue.
Through the in-game server browser, PC users are in the greatest position to select their servers.
Chivalry 2 crossplay for PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
We've got bad news for you if you were fortunate enough to obtain a PS5, but all of your friends have PS4 consoles.
Unfortunately, you cannot get together with pals and play Chivalry 2 on PlayStation across system generations. Torn Banner Studios, on the other hand, is currently working on this. Players of the PS5 can currently download the PS4 version to play with pals.
Cross-generation crossplay is possible between Xbox One and new generation consoles if you have an Xbox Series X|S.
Can you switch off Chivalry 2 crossplay?
You don't like playing with others on other platforms, do you? You do, however, have choices.
Chivalry 2 crossplay can be turned off from the options menu, but be aware that this could lengthen the matchmaking process. This doesn't seem to be an issue right now, but as Chivalry 2's lifespan progresses, expect delays.
So that's all we currently know about Chivalry 2 crossplay. Expect some news on cross-platform parties soon as Torn Banner Studios is known to be planning a number of significant improvements in 2021, including new game modes, weaponry, maps, and more.
